Solange Piaget Knowles is an American singer, songwriter, performance artist, and actress. Expressing an interest in music from an early age, Knowles had several temporary stints as a backup dancer for Destiny’s Child, which featured her elder sister, Beyoncé Knowles, among its members, before signing with her father Mathew Knowles’s Music World Entertainment label.

Lawson was born in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Denise (née Gordy) and actor Richard Lawson, making her the step-daughter to Lawson’s second wife Tina Knowles, and step-sister to singers Beyoncé and Solange Knowles.

Lawson is also a grand-niece of Motown founder Berry Gordy. She attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and graduated from Marymount High School, a Catholic school in Los Angeles.

Solange is Beyoncé’s baby sister and her most recognized sibling. She was also born in Houston, Texas to Mathew and Tina Knowles.

In her early teenage years, Solange wrote songs for Beyoncé’s group Destiny’s Child before embarking on a solo career.

She released her debut album, Solo Star, in 2002 when she was just 16 but took a break from the industry after becoming pregnant with her son, Julez. In 2004, she married Julez’s dad, Daniel Smith, and the two settled in Idaho. But the marriage did last and the couple divorced in 2007.
